Our family just got back from a little camping trip for my son's birthday. while we were there, my son (who is a very sweet three year old) and I took off to explore the creek near our campsite. We piled rocks, splashed through the cool water, and ended up, both propped up on the larger rocks, scraping various shades of stones to make paint.
we then ended up painting ourselves from head to toe. And the minute my husband came down to check on us, we promptly began painting him as well.
now, I've been an artist my entire life, but there was something about simply just looking at the world around me and finding a new way to create from it, that brought me back to my childhood with such a sense of nostalgic joy.
As a kid, I never had a ton of fancy art supplies, but I had ten acres of ranch to explore and mold into my own natural art studio. I would weave with plants, paint with berries, and build with twigs. It was some of the most basic and joyful creating I have ever done.
every once in a while, it's a wonderful blessing, to get away and recenter like that. To get back to creating as I did in my childhood, with no planning, no technique, no thought...just desire and a creative eye.
Wishing everyone a renewed sense of creativity!
